I think it really depends on one's preferences. I started my journey in the Cyan's worlds of Myst with the ports on the original playstation console.

Only later I read, that this version was not endorsed by both Miller brothers, the creator duo of the original game. Nontheless, I was astonished by its achievement and care in all the details, despite the technology's limitations at that time-if I am not mistaken it is still based on DirectX 7. Unfortunately, this very version of Myst is not anymore available here at GOG.com, due to the aforementioned fact and the new re-imagining in the Unity engine ("realMyst: Masterpiece Edition"), although I do prefer the older over the (then) newer version.ĭo not get me wrong, both versions have their merits, but I found the "first" realMyst achieved a lot (or even more in some cases) with so much less than the newer incarnation, especially, considering the time of release. (Disclaimer, I have not played the most recent patched-up version of realMyst: masterpiece Edition on PC!) I did not had the chance to play the original port on the iPad, which then later was ported and enhanced to the realMyst: Masterpiece Edition available here, which has undergone a transformation with multiple patches, as well.
Going back to experiencing it for the first time, I am not sure, if I would still recommend the original Myst Masterpiece Edition on PC.
